Harvard Study Finds Flavonoids From Cannabis Helps Kill Cancer Cells
Over the last few decades, we’ve seen many breakthroughs when it comes to the relationships between cannabis and various types of cancer. By no means is cannabis the all-saving medicine for cancer, but people have been utilizing cannabis to treat diseases such as cancer for quite some time. Every month or so it seems that major progress continues to be announced, most recently with Harvard’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s publishing of the Frontiers of Oncology journal.
Per Yahoo Lifestyle, 2020 will be the year where pancreatic cancer becomes the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Although pancreatic cancer is currently only three percent of the current cases across America, this particular type of cancer has a notably low survival rate of about eight percent within five years. The journal released by Dana-Farber does shed positive light on a new treatment involving cannabis-derived flavonoids.
Harvard researchers were testing FBL-03G, a drug made from a cannabis flavonoid, on some of the most severe cancers. Their team found the results to be quite substantial. Utilizing a tumor-targeted delivery method for the drug enabled both local and metastatic tumor cells to be killed.
Considering the serious nature of pancreatic cancer, plus the fact that this is the first study to demonstrate new potential treatments for pancreatic cancer, we’re choosing to be optimistic that the study’s results were positive towards cannabis use and treatment. According to Wilfred Ngwa, PhD, the drug seems capable of attacking cancer cells contributing to pancreatic cancer as well as other cancers.
